Today is "Super Bowl Sunday" and it's been a bit of a bummer for me.
First off...MY team, the Pittsburgh Steelers weren't in it. They got close, but not close enough. Nevertheless...I still love my STEELERS.
Adding to that...I've heard over the years that Super Bowl Sunday is the day of the year with the highest number of domestic violence instances.
And then...just recently, the issue of human sex trafficking was brought to my attention, and the fact that many young girls (some boys too, but primarily girls), have been "groomed" for weeks so that they could provide "services" to those who traveled to Houston this weekend for the game.
Yes...while many were tuned in to the television, cheering for one team or another to win...some young girl was being sexually abused by a pervert. Harsh words? Yes. But there's absolutely NO WAY to sugar-coat the sexual abuse of CHILDREN (or anyone for that matter, but especially CHILDREN).
So yeah...what was a celebratory day for most actually weighed quite heavy on this heart of mine. Throughout the day I found myself uttering prayers for those who are with abusers (note that I did not specifically say WOMEN because I know that men are often abused as well...although I doubt that the numbers are as high for men as they are for women), and for the youth in Houston, the United States, and around the globe. Human sex trafficking is a WORLDWIDE issue and should be EVERYONE'S concern.
Now if you're anything like me when I first found out about this despicable travesty, then you're either saying, "Well what can I do to help?" or "How can I help?"
Here's how.
Support organizations such as Forgotten Children. Contact them to find out what YOU can do to make a difference. Or, support them FINANCIALLY. Everything counts. Everything helps.
Ok. So enough of me being "Debbie Downer."
Let the DIALOGUE begin: Were you rooting for anyone in today's game?
Talk to me (only if you were rooting for the Falcons)!
Til next time...

Needing New Nerves
Yesterday I did something new (2016 will be FILLED with NEW things).
I met up with some fellow Pittsburgh Steelers fans at a local sports bar and watched the game. Oh what fun!
Normally the game are on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am so I miss them because I am at church. Thankfully, yesterday's game was on a Saturday, and in the evening, sooo...I was able to watch it LIVE.
Now this football thing is completely new to me. As some of you may recall, I only started watching and became a Steelers fan THIS season because I wanted to know more about the game when I attend my friend's FABULOUS Superbowl Party that I attend each year.
In past years I've pretty much gone for the AMAZING food, their wonderful company, and rooted for whichever team was wearing BLUE.
This year's party will be much different. Now I can enjoy the spread, the company, AND actually know what I'm watching on the screen.
One thing I've learned about myself this season is that my nerves are not cut out for all of the ups and downs that take place during those four quarters. MAN!!!
One minute my team is up, then the next thing I know, the other team has intercepted, made a touchdown AND the field goal. Just like that, the score flips. ARGH!!!
I have also learned that FOUR minutes in a football game is like an eternity. Football time is not like any other time on the planet. Heck...even ONE minute in a football game can be the difference between a winning play.
So I went to the sports bar, highly enjoyed the camaraderie and reveled once again in my team going home with the WIN. It was close -- too close -- but they made it happen.
Next week they'll go up against The Broncos. Yuck! I hope they whoop some major donkey a _ _!
For me, there are three teams that The Steelers HAVE to win against when they play: The Broncos, Raiders and Seahawks. Of course, I love ALL wins, but against those three teams in particular, the wins are just that much sweeter.
Now Let the DIALOGUE begin: Are you a football fan? If so, who's your team?

Are You Ready for some FOOTBALL?!?
I know, I know...I'm a few weeks late.
But better late than never, right?
Before football season began I decided that I wanted to learn about the game. Of course, in order to do that I'd have to WATCH some games.
Now it's kinda boring to watch ANY sport without having someone to root for.
I've always said that my favorite team would be the one that wears BLUE and BROWN...my two favorite colors. Well...none of the teams wear those colors.
So then I said, "Ok. I'll root for whoever wears BLUE then." Well...there are a lot of teams that wear BLUE, but that didn't do much for me. I am a bit partial to the colors that the Seattle Seahawks wear...but nah...that's not my team.
Well...TONIGHT, I decided on a team. And I'll tell you how I came to my decision.
I have decided to root for THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS!!!
My very analytical decision came about as I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and one of my die-hard FEMALE Steelers fans posted a picture of four beautifully DARK CHOCOLATE players on the team. Yep!!! Right then and there I decided that a team with that much dark chocolate HAS to be good.
So...I'm all in this season.
I'm gonna get to know the players, and know the game. Whether they win or lose doesn't really matter to me (although I'll ALWAYS be rooting for them to WIN), but the fact that I'll be learning something new, and enjoying some delicious "eye candy" at the same time, is a WIN-WIN in my book.
So...Let the DIALOGUE begin: Are YOU a football fan, and if so...who's your team?
Talk to me!
Til next time...
***For some reason, pics are not uploading to my posts. This happened yesterday too. I'll keep trying, but for now...I hope you can imagine the Pittsburgh Steelers logo that was gonna go with this post.***
