Last Saturday I had an opportunity to do one of the many things I love...I volunteered by reading to some "little ones."
The event took place at a library and at the end of the session I asked the librarian if I could sign up for a card. YES...I already had a card for the County of Los Angeles Public Library, but in my opinion one can NEVER have enough access to books, sooo...I was overjoyed when she told me that I could.
You see, this particular library wasn't part of the CoLAPL system...it was part of the Los Angeles Public Library. I know, I know...they sound like the same entitiy, but...they're not.
It's a good thing too...for oh so many reasons. I'll give you just one of those reasons now.
My bookclub selection for this month (which we will be discussing on Saturday) was Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Well...I couldn't find it through the CoLAPL, but THANKFULLY...I was able to find it through the LAPL, and can now say that I have read it and will be ready to join in on the discussion.
I feel like all I'm missing now is a card from the Long Beach Public Library. If I could get my hands on one'a those, it would feel like Christmas in August.
For now though, I will be content with having the two.
With that...Let the DIALOGUE begin: When was the last time you visited your local library? If you have young children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbor kids...I encourage you to take them and sign them up for a card. With one, they will have the WORLD at their fingertips.
Talk to me!
Til next time...

Please Silence Your Cell Phones.
With the advent of cell phones one thing's for sure...the days of quite libraries are now a thing of the past.
At this very moment, I am at the library listening to a man ask Siri questions (on speaker), and listening to her reply.
To my left is a young lady on her phone talking about who knows what, and directly across from her is a man on the phone telling someone that he has no income and isn't interested in looking for work. Really?!?
So anyhoo...I'm huddled up in my little corner diligently seeking and applying for jobs, trying my best to not be distracted by all that's going pn around me.
Oh...and on the flip side, to my right, is a gentleman who has simply planted himself on one of the cushy chairs, no book in hand, no phone, no nothin'...and has simple SAT for the last hour. Contemplating life? Maybe. But whatever he's doing, he's doing it in complete peace.
That's about it for now. As I listen to cell phones ringing, I will get back to my job search. Because unlike the gentleman who isn't interested in work...that's just not MY story.
Let the DIALOGUE begin: Where are some places that you think cell phone use shouldn't be allowed?
Talk to me!

Shhh...
Most folks who know me know how much I LOVE the public library. Why? Because there are sooo many goodies there and they are absolutely FREE.
Aside from books, audio books and movies that are available, lately I've been taking the most advantage of the library's FREE Wi-Fi. It's come in quite handy since I no longer have internet at home.
Now that I am a "regular" there's one thing that I've noticed. Well...actually, I've noticed a FEW things, but the one that sticks out most is that THE SAME PEOPLE ARE AT THE LIBRARY EVERYDAY! Some of them even sit in the same spot.
I'm thinkin'..."Don't these folks have somewhere to be?" Then I think, "They are probably wondering the same thing about me."
I pray that SOON I WILL have somewhere else to be...as in A JOB. But until then, I shall find myself planted at the library continuing my job search, and of course...posting The Dialogue Den's daily entries.
Now...Let the DIALOGUE begin: How often do YOU go to your local library?
Talk to me (quietly though...'cause I'm at the library)!
